I recently visited a course in the mountains that was treated with Insignia before aerification of greens a couple of weeks ago. The super is excited about what he saw. He believes he will be able to open a couple of weeks earlier due to this application.
I am finalizing plans for the FarmLinks visit during the week of April 28; upers from The Cliffs Communities courses will be our guests from Wednesday thru Friday of that week.
Until the next time.

On Thurs., April 3, Florida turf professionals in the golf course and athletic turf community gathered at the South Florida Research & Education Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to hear about the latest research from the University of Florida.
The day began with a field tour including ten stops with topics ranging from fungicide programs for the management of ultradwarf bermudagrasses to burrowing owls in turf areas to plant root management and new herbicides for broadleaf weeds. Vendors also exhibited and demonstrated new equipment. After a barbecue lunch, turf pros attended workshops presented by Dr. Mike Fidanza (Penn State) and John Foy (Florida USGA) for GCSAA CEU credits.

Last week I attended the first local chapter GCSA meetings for both the Kentuckian GCSA and the Bluegrass GCSA. These meetings were well attended as folks were anxious to get out and network.I attended opening day of races at Keeneland Race Course. This is a prestigious track in Kentucky with a huge derby prep race this weekend.
It’ll be on ESPN. This has become an annual tradition for a few guys here.

Florida’s wetter than normal spring season is causing greater disease and weed pressure than what we’ve seen the last couple of years. Insignia fungicide continues to gain ground over Heritage. I’ve heard—more than ever before— that many superintendents have completely switched to Insignia. I’m even seeing increased interest in Curalan and Emerald. An uptake in Pendulum herbicide sales in my territory may be due to the substantial increases in fertilizer and fuel costs and flattening out of maintenance budgets.

This week at FarmLinks seemed to fly by.
My colleague Bob Beyer really helped me out while I was gone. He conducted three Insignia pre-aerification demonstrations in the central Pennsylvania/Philly area. The trials focused on examining the outcomes of early preventative applications that take place during aerification when the soil temperature is between 55 and 65 F. This key temperature range marks the beginning of seasonal disease activity at the soil level. Some customers may aerify early while the turf is still dormant in an effort to apply the treatments closer to key temperatures to get their money’s worth.
