Welcome my grandson!
On a personal note, my wife and I were blessed last week with our first grandbaby. After a few complications, the baby and mother are doing well. My grandson is home and getting used to his new surroundings. We are very proud! It is great being a grandpa. Hopefully I can be a popular grandpa like my friend and colleague Willie Pennington.

Dollar spot above average with summer patch peaking
In Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania we’ve had night-time temps in the low to mid-50s and day-time high temps in the 70s. Dollar spot pressure in some areas is above average with a small number of breakthroughs of summer patch preventative programs. This also includes competitive programs.
Michigan’s Oakland Hills Country Club hosts PGA
The PGA Championship took place at Oakland Hills Country Club located in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Over the last decade, Oakland Hills CC has hosted three PGA Championships and one Ryder Cup. I’m told the very first Ryder Cup took place at Oakland Hills CC many years ago. You can read more about the championship here at the PGA’s Web site.
Oakland Hills’ superintendent used BASF fungicides to get ready for tournament
I spent time at the PGA Championship on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The course played very tough—only a handful of golfers being in the red. There were a couple of rain delays which were a blessing that increased the quality of putting. On Saturday and Sunday, some friendlier pin placement locations were implemented. I was rooting for Sergio Garcia to win, but it did not happen. The trophy went to Ireland’s Padraig Harrington. You can read about his win on the PGA Web site here.
Steve Cook used several BASF fungicides, including Emerald® fungicide. You can read more about his program in our Golfdom Magazine July Hole of the Month.

BASF tent at Hole 3 was a cool spot to watch the PGA Championship
BASF had a nice corporate tent next to the backside of the Hole No. 3 green. We welcomed golf superintendents and distributors to the tent. It was a great time and a nice location to keep an eye on the tournament!
