Networking and golfing with industry colleagues in the Pacific Northwest
It has been a whirlwind the last few weeks in the Pacific Northwest. I was recently involved with three large GCSA and distributor hosted golf events. The first event included 144 superintendents from Oregon and was run Wilbur-Ellis. It was a great day at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. This was one of the courses that Tiger Woods won an amateur US Open at.

I attended a crew tournament also hosted by Target at Arrowhead Golf Club. This event was tee timed and had 239 participants starting at 6:00 a.m. with the last group finishing at 8:25 p.m. It was long day!

How it works is: each course sends 1 or 2 foursome group to compete for a chance to play a group from Washington to win the crew cup. The golf course superintendent plays with guys from the crew, and they post a score in hopes to win the cup for Oregon. A long day, but a great time!

Northwest golf course superintendents enjoy the Experience at FarmLinks
I took my fifth trip down to FarmLinks. We left the day after Labor Day and stayed until the following Friday morning. Our group consisted of golf course superintendents from Washington State and Reno, Nevada. Everyone had a great time and the weather was good. Nice temps and lower humidity. It wasn’t a bad time to be in Alabama weather-wise, except the hurricanes in the forecast.

Talk to you all soon on Turf Talk, and have a great turf maintenance season!
