Boston Red Sox beat L.A. Angels, Patriots beat 49ers and Chargers
All hail from the City of Champions. Just a few quotes I've heard the last week or so..... "The Angels have the best team in baseball;" "The Angels have the best 3-man rotation;" "NO-ONE can beat the Angels in the Playoffs this year."
Oh pray tell, have ye'all forgotten so quickly that the hometown teams from the City of Champions feast on weaker minions from the other coast. Yo baby that's right, I am talking about the spanking the Red Sox gave the "whatever city they are from this year Angels." And yes when you live in the City of Champions, you earn the right to talk smack! The California massacre---Patriots beat the 49ers and fraud South Dakota Chargers while the Red Sox take the series 3-1, all within a two-week span. Love that Dirty Waatah.

Superintendents combat dollar spot in New England
Golf course superintendents are facing heavy dollar spot pressure in the Northeast. Curalan® EG fungicide and Emerald® fungicide are being used to control many customers' breakouts.
Superintendents I've spoken with are concerned where the numbers will fall after the fertilizer prices continue to increase. And while fuel cost is an issue, it is nothing compared to fertilizer prices.
Fertilizer and fuel hikes affect New England golf course superintendents and lawn care operators
The rise in fertilizer is hitting operators in the lawn care market especially hard. If anyone has found some successful ways to cut down on fertilizer or fuel costs, comment below to share them with others who are struggling and want advice. I've also attached an article that has some good insight. If anyone else has resources please feel free to post the link in a comment.
Golf Course Industry interviewed Doug Brooks, golf course superintendent at Denver Country Club in their September 2008 cover story, "A Heavy Head." Brooks manages his costs by splitting fuel purchases of unleaded and diesel over alternate months. "We've paid attention to every part of our operation," he said in the article. "We're careful with the money we're spending on labor and paying attention to our fertility, making sure we're not getting ahead of ourselves." Budget was the fifth highest concern in their survey of 200 superintendents.

The Sox sure stunk it up last night at Fenway. And the Pats this past Sunday.
