Pathologists Start New Blog Resource: “Turfgrass Disease Updates for Golf Courses”

May 7th, 2009
By Tom Hill thill1

New turf pathology blog offers timely disease updates and tips from university experts
A group of young pathologists decided that online blogging was a great way to share turfgrass disease updates for golf courses in the various regions of the U.S.

Example entries from their blog, www.turfdiseases.blogspot.com, include when to apply preventative applications for fairy ring and take-all patch and how to tell the difference between brown ring and yellow patch.

Participating pathologists include Lane Tredway, Ph.D. from N.C. State, Megan Kennelly, Ph.D. from Kansas State, Jim Kerns, Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, Frank Wong, Ph.D. from the University of California – Riverside and John Kaminski, Ph.D. from Penn State.

Each day, one of these pathologists will update information from their region according to the schedule listed blow:

  • Monday…Northeast Updates (Kaminski)
  • Tuesday…Southeast Updates (Tredway)
  • Wednesday…Midwest Updates (Kerns)
  • Thursday…Western Updates (Wong)
  • Friday…South Central Updates (Kennelly)

“Our blog is very simple at this moment, but the updates should be timely and informational, Kaminski said in an email.

We look forward to their updates!
