Short video highlights importance of Honor at the course
Ever had a ‘Who’s-on-First?’ moment when talking to golf customers? Check out this 80-second video of Caddyshack-inspired Judge Fales trying to follow a superintendent as he shares how new Honor™ fungicide can improve turfgrass quality on greens and fairways on which the “Honor-able Judge plays. Feel free to share.

BASF formulated Honorâ„¢ fungicide for broad-spectrum disease control
control.jpgVideo character Judge Fales may not understand the importance of controlling the industry’s top diseases with one pre-mix formulation but superintendents do. That’s why BASF scientists formulated broad-spectrum Honor fungicide. It combines boscalid, the active in Emerald® fungicide, and pyraclostrobin, the active in Insignia® fungicide, for two modes of action that control top diseases, including dollar spot, anthracnose, patch diseases (brown, take-all and summer), leaf spots and many others.

Since Insignia fungicide’s introduction, superintendents consistently report that it’s become their go-to strobi for broad-spectrum control. For dollar spot disease, superintendents treat Emerald fungicide as their foundational control product.

With Honor, BASF has made it convenient to get all the benefits from both leading actives in one convenient, powerful pre-mix formulation.

Honor fungicide is available Oct. 1 and will be included in the BASF Turf & Ornamentals Early Order Program.

Snow Mold: The Scourge of Golf Course Superintendents in the Northern U.S.
uow-snow-mold.jpg
BASF has well-tested fungicide programs for management of snow mold disease pressure. We have many successes in northern Ohio and Michigan from the snowbelt of Cleveland up through Michigan to include the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

We hear comments from golf course superintendents that BASF fall-applied snow mold fungicide applications have given them some of the best golf course greens coming out of winter they have experienced in a long time. Golf course superintendents who apply Insignia® fungicide + Trinity® fungicide + Chlorothalonil in late-October to mid-November have not experienced Poa annua desiccation during the winter due to ice damage.

snow-mold.jpgBASF has a track record of good snow mold fungicide performance backed by excellent research from university locations at Michigan State University, the University of Wisconsin, Colorado State University and others. BASF has developed recommendations for moderate to high, moderate, and low snow mold disease pressure for greens, tees and fairways. Click here to download the 2009 BASF Snow Mold Fungicide Recommendations Sheet.

Recommendations: Moderate to High Snow Mold Pressure—Greens & Tees
1st week October 2009
Apply Curalan® EG fungicide @ 1.0 ounces per 1,000 square feet + Chlorothalonil @ 7.5 pounds per acre

Late October to mid-November 2009
Apply Insignia® fungicide @ 0.7ounces per 1,000 square feet + Trinity® fungicide @ 1.0 ounces per 1,000 square feet + Chlorothalonil @ 10.0 pounds per acre

Benefits of this program:
1.) Good control of gray snow mold, microdochium patch and fusarium
2.) Excellent late fall clean-up of dollar spot from four different chemistries
3.) A well-timed foundation in the fall for anthracnose and take-all patch which will result in improved efficacy of spring and summer fungicide applications

Recommendations: Moderate to High Snow Mold Pressure—Fairways
1st week October 2009
Apply Curalan® EG fungicide @ 1.0 ounces per 1,000 square feet + Chlorothalonil @ 7.5 pounds per acre

Late-October to mid-November 2009
Apply Insignia® fungicide @ 0.7 ounces per 1,000 square feet + PCNB @ 8.0 ounces per 1,000 square feet + Chlorothalonil @ 10.0 pounds per acre

COMMENT BELOW to talk with turf peers about snow mold control and what pressure your course is experiencing.

Update on BASF golf course naturalized areas study with Auburn University
The BASF naturalized areas study between Holes No. 1 and 10 utilize Pendulum® AquaCap™, Onetime™, Plateau®, and Journey® herbicides. These treatments were all applied after an early May mowing and clearly show how these chemistries (especially the Pendulum AquaCap and Onetime) can eliminate invasive weeds and reduce the density of the predominately tall fescue natural areas.

In addition to being aesthetically unacceptable, these golf course naturalized areas can be difficult to manage because the extreme density makes it difficult to find errant golf balls and the monoculture stand is generally not conducive to wildlife habitat. The preemergent activity of the Pendulum AquaCap has really held up well to the thistle, pokeweed, marestail and jimson weed that normally thrive in this Alabama environment.

Greetings from the Southeast – BASF to launch two new products
Hello from Georgia. There’s a lot going on with BASF this summer with the launch of our two new products Tower® herbicide and Honor™ fungicide and the start of our Early Order Program October 1st.

I recently visited the University of Georgia golf course to report on the positive rooting characteristics and broad-spectrum disease control we’re seeing in our Honor fungicide trials.

Watch my video to hear the full report.

BASF will now focus on most innovative postemergent herbicide – Drive XLR8
BASF Turf & Ornamentals today announced that, effective immediately, it will no longer sell Drive® 75 DF herbicide to the professional turf & ornamentals market. BASF will now focus on selling the most innovative product in postemergent herbicides, Drive® XLR8.

Launched in 2008, Drive XLR8 herbicide is a true liquid formulation and as such exhibits rainfastness in only 30 minutes. Drive XLR8 also shows improved efficacy over the older Drive75 DF and is easier to handle and mix.

Drive XLR8 is available now through all BASF Turf & Ornamental distribution partners nationwide.
