About Mike Ditka
Raised in a working-class Pittsburgh suburb, Ditka's upbringing and values fueled his record-breaking career as a football player, NFL coach and American icon. With 26 years in the NFL—12 years playing and 14 as head coach—Ditka earned a reputation for being tough as iron.
Ditka earned All-American honors at the University of Pittsburgh as a tight end and was selected as NFL Rookie of the Year and six times as All-Pro. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988.
Since his days with the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints, Ditka has become a popular ESPN sportscaster, entrepreneur and avid golfer. A husband and father of four children, Ditka owns and operates Ditka's restaurants in Chicago and Pittsburgh. In 1989, he created The Mike Ditka Foundation to raise funds for Misericordia, a residential facility for developmentally disabled children and for pediatric AIDS research programs. He is also devoted to varied charitable endeavors, including numerous anti-drug and drug-prevention campaigns.
