Territory Update

grass1.jpgThe weather pattern for much of the territory has developed into almost daily thunderstorms that are dumping large amounts of rainfall & damaging winds. We had some tornado activity that went through Northern Ohio which pretty much wiped two small towns off the map. Flash flooding has also caused several golf courses to close down for a few days waiting for the flood waters to recede. We have had pretty steady hot & humid conditions with extended leaf wetness, all the elements for disease pressure to develop and force the hand of the golf course super to stay on top of their game pertaining to managing disease pressure.

grass21.jpgThe majority of the Emerald® fungicide & Curalan®/Touché fungicide early Dollar Spot applications are still holding, while the untreated areas have extensive active dollar spot pressure. Other diseases worth mentioning are Brown Ring Patch, Pink Snow Mold, Anthracnose, Pythium Root Dysfunction, Take-All Patch, Neucrotic Ring Spot & Fairy Ring.

In the spring I recommend Curalan/Touché followed by Emerald, and in the Fall I recommend Emerald followed by Curalan/Touché.

Pre-tiller stage crabgrass has emerged. I am fielding numerous calls concerning recommendations for Drive® & Onetime® herbicides both of which can handle that most troublesome weed.
