Is your turfgrass taking a beating in the brutal summer heat?

This time of year, turf professionals can predict the usual summer stresses—high temperatures, stressed turf, lack of water—but this summer is turning out to be more challenging than past years.

CNN recently reported that the United States mainland experienced the warmest 12 months since record keeping began in 1895. In addition to unusually high temperatures, wildfires in Colorado, drought conditions in 26 states, and tropical storms along the Atlantic Coast have left golf course superintendents and lawn care professionals battling Mother Nature.

Comment below and share what you’re seeing this summer

Do you think this summer is worse than typical? What conditions are you facing this year that you haven’t had to manage in the past? How is your turf holding up?

Share how you are staying ahead of the challenges brought on by extreme summer weather.

  1. Chris Thuer, CGCS says:

With almost no rain since March, until last week, and record temps, we have increased the frequencey of 1/4″ tine greens venting and wetting agent applications on greens from once a month to every 3 weeks. The greens are still doing well.
