Southern Nevada GCSA Disease Control Plant Health Conference

BASF recently sponsored a Disease Control Plant Health Conference for the Southern Nevada GCSA.  The program was agenda as follows:

New Tools for Dealing with Turfgrass Stress in the High Desert
Research Update –Bentgrass and Bermudagrass
Greens Response to Select Strobilurin Fungicides
David M. Kopec, Ph.D., Turfgrass Specialist, University of Arizona at Tucson

Research Update – Physiological Responses of Stressed Bentgrass and Bermudagrass Greens Pre Treated With Select Fungicides
James H. Baird, Ph.D., Turfgrass Specialist, University of California at Riverside

The Plant Health Effect – Improving Plant Health with New Management Tools
Todd Burkdoll, Technical Services, BASF Professional Turf & Ornamentals

The speakers focused on their research over the past two years in Riverside, Tucson and Phoenix.  Because there are so many companies in our industry with products claiming Plant Health as a benefit, we asked BASF Tech Services Representative Todd Burkdoll to give the BASF perspective on Plant Health and what it took to get the claim, Plant Health, added to our EPA registered labels for fungicides that provide Disease Control.

Since this meeting was scheduled in the heat of July in Las Vegas, we conducted it at Pole Position Raceway in Las Vegas. This is an indoor race track that has electric racing carts that quickly get up to a speed of 45 mph.  After the conference and lunch, many attendees put on their racing gear and had at it.  This was a very different but effective way for superintendents to get cutting edge education and have plenty of fun with peers.
